Chair's Message

Dear Colleagues,

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 4th Symposium in Civil Engineering (NCE2026), to be held on 03–04 December 2026 under the auspices of the Union of the Chambers of Cyprus Turkish Engineers & Architects, Chamber of Civil Engineers (UCCTEA‑CCE) and Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU). This year marks a special milestone, as the symposium is organized in partnership for the first time under the newly established collaboration protocol between our two institutions.

The NCE symposium series has long served as an important platform for sharing scientific knowledge, fostering professional collaboration, and strengthening ties within the civil engineering community. Continuing this tradition, NCE2026 brings together researchers, practitioners, students, and industry experts to discuss emerging challenges and innovative solutions that shape the future of our field.

Our main theme for this year, “Natural Hazards and Civil Engineering Solutions," reflects the increasing urgency to understand, anticipate, and mitigate the impacts of natural disasters. As the frequency and intensity of such events continue to grow, the responsibility of civil engineers to design resilient, sustainable, and safe infrastructure becomes even more vital. Through the contributions presented at this symposium—ranging from geotechnics and structures to transportation, construction management, hydraulics, and building materials—we aim to highlight multidisciplinary approaches that advance resilience and enhance community safety.

I extend my sincere gratitude to all authors, reviewers, keynote speakers, committee members, and institutional partners whose dedication and support have made this event possible. Most importantly, I thank you—our participants—for your valuable contributions and for being part of this growing knowledge network.

We hope that NCE2026 will inspire new ideas, collaborations, and research directions, and that your time with us will be both professionally rewarding and personally enjoyable.

Welcome to NCE2026.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eriş Uygar
Symposium Chair, NCE2026

Dear Colleagues and Participants,

It is with great pleasure and pride that I invite you to the 4th Civil Engineering Symposium, which will be hosted in December 2026 by Eastern Mediterranean University, one of the leading institutions in science and education in our country and the surrounding region.

Initiated under the leadership of our Chamber and rapidly becoming a tradition, this symposium series has evolved into a strong scientific platform. Today, it has gone beyond being merely a professional organization event; through the ownership and support of our universities, it has become institutionalized and gained a sustainable structure. It is particularly meaningful for us that the first and most valuable step of this transformation will take place under the hosting of Eastern Mediterranean University, one of the most distinguished higher education institutions in our country.

This development is also a concrete reflection of our Chamber’s evolving and expanding vision. The Chamber of Civil Engineers has moved beyond being solely an institution that conducts professional supervision and certification processes. It has become a modern professional organization that encourages scientific production, organizes international events, and brings academia and the industry together on a common platform. In this new era—where the academic community takes a more active role in the Chamber’s activities, our international representation is strengthened, and interdisciplinary collaborations are enhanced—each event organized represents a significant contribution to the future of our profession.

In line with this vision, the 4th Civil Engineering Symposium will bring together academics, industry professionals, public sector representatives, and young engineers to support knowledge sharing, collaboration, and the development of innovative approaches. This platform will not only serve as a venue where scientific outputs are presented but also as a powerful space for interaction where we collectively shape the future of our profession.

We warmly invite you to be a part of this important event, to share your knowledge and experience, and to contribute together to the advancement of our profession.

Yours sincerely,

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdullah Ekinci

President, Chamber of Civil Engineers (UCCTEA)
